REPRESENTATIVE PROGRAM

netball s.jfif

GCNA Representative program it's the 14th year 2024 as a new association (formed with the merger of Geelong Unity Netball Association and Geelong Netball Association), the Representative program has been developing Geelong netballers since the early 1980s.

The representative program is for 12 to 17olds and includes a development program for 11 and under.  Trials are run during November each year where players are selected to represent Geelong Central Netball Association Inc. If selected it comes with responsibilities and expectations.

Our program runs from mid-January through to mid-December. Players are expected to attend all training (held Wednesday afternoons/evenings) unless unwell. Where possible we do not train during school holidays, although depending on the upcoming circumstances (ie finals, Association Championships) we may choose to train.

Teams will play on Monday evenings at Geelong Central Netball Association (Kardinia Park). Your child must play at GCNA (either prior to or during the year, this means Monday night or Wednesday night only) to be eligible for the Representative program, this is a requirement of GCNA and Netball Victoria. Representative teams will also attend tournaments over the year. (11 and Under are only entered into our own GCNA tournament and possible one other)

It is a requirement that the girls will participate for the full year of the program. On-court players or training partners of other association representative teams are ineligible for GCNA’s program.

The representative program is very fortunate to have the support of GCNA and as such we are able to keep our fees low for the 11 months our program runs. Our fees include weekly competition fees, tournament entries, enrichment programs and activities, specialised coaching sessions and various activities during the year (ie break ups).

Our program in turn supports GCNA through fundraising efforts and volunteering over the year. GCNA is a large supporter of Relay for Life and there is usually chocolates to sell to support this.  We also attend the event and appreciate the support of the girls and families choosing to walk. When hosting tournaments the Representative players' parents are expected to assist with running the bbq, responsibilities may include cooking and serving.

Over the years we have had many successes in having girls selected to trial and then participate in the Central West Zone Academy, a pathway with Netball Victoria. We also have a number of participants involved in the Barwon Sports Academy Program.

We look forward to building on these successes in 2022.
